Brianna Kupfer’s suspected killer Shawn Laval Smith was arrested by the law enforcement authorities in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the police department said in a social media post. Law enforcement further elaborated that Smith had been travelling around multiple South California cities, including San Francisco and San Diego. It was not immediately clear whether Smith had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

According to reports from Fox News, Smith has been arrested multiple times in the last decade. He also has a pending felony case that alleges he fired a flare gun at a car with a toddler inside. Smith also had run-ins with police in California.

A monetary reward worth $250,000 was previously announced by authorities for information that gave intel about Smith’s identity and whereabouts, which would link him to the fatal stabbing of Brianna Kupfer, 24

Kupfer was alone in the Croft House in the Hancock Park neighborhood last Thursday afternoon when she was stabbed, police have said.

“She sent a text to a friend saying there was someone inside the location that gave her a bad vibe. Regrettably, that person did not see the text immediately,” Lt. John Radtke said.

“Detectives have determined the suspect was not known to the victim and was a random walk-in to the store,” police said, according to reports from Associated Press. “The suspect attacked the victim with a knife and fled the scene through the back door”

Kupfer was one of four children, graduated from the University of Miami and was working on a master’s degree in architectural design at UCLA.
