With the pandemic causing all sorts of problems in the world, health has been a major concern for all. The case is no different for a woman admitted to a hospital in Leicester, who while suffering from COVID-19 gave birth to a baby boy after an intense Caesarean section procedure and later went into a coma, according to UK media reports.
A UK court judge has ruled that the doctors can terminate the life support being given to the unnamed woman after hearing the due testimonies and reviewing the pieces of evidence. Such cases of mercy killings are only suggested under rare conditions.

However, the family has declined to agree with the court’s ruling and said, “We believe in miracles. When God has written our death, that is when we will die. To unplug the machine, this is for us like asking someone to kill us”, reported BBC.
The specialists who were available at the court hearing said that the chances of survival of the patient were “slim” and stressed that a full recovery will be nothing short of a miracle. The specialist further elaborated that the woman’s pancreas had stopped functioning while one of the lungs were “dead”.
The woman, who also has a three-year-old daughter, also suffers from a rare condition called Addison’s disease, where the patient’s glands no longer produce essential hormones.

Justice Hayden, who passed a judgement on the highly sensitive matter, said that “the insidious virus” has made her recovery essentially impossible and the woman should be allowed to die with dignity. He said, “The objective is not to shorten her life, [but] to avoid the prolongation of her death”, reported BBC.
