David Warner and Shaheen Afridi stood inches apart, staring at each other before both of them and others on the field burst into laughter. The Australian opener, 1.7 metres tall, looked up to the Pakistani bowler, 1.98 metres, creating a hilarious scene during the final session of Day 3 of the third Test match in Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium on Wednesday. 

The three-match Test series, a historic one, between Australia and Pakistan is locked at 0-0.

The incident took place after the last ball of the day was bowled. Afridi, who was hit for a boundary off the previous delivery, bowled a short one, which climbed up to Warner’s shoulders. The Australian opener defended the ball under his feet.

“No run,” Warner exclaimed in quite a Marnus Labuschagne fashion. 

The 21-year-old pacer then charged towards Warner and the left-hander also walked towards him. The confrontation, which seemed heated at first, turned out to be one of the lightest moments in the day.

Standing toe-to-toe, first Afridi burst into laughter and then Warner followed. Pakistani players on the field also started giggling and the television cameras showed Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne laughing in the dressing room.

 Pakistan were 268 all out against the persistent pace of Australia captain Pat Cummins and impeccable reverse swing of Mitchell Starc to concede a massive 123-run lead. Coming out to bat in the second inninngs, the visitors managed to get to 11 runs without losing any wicket.

The lead now stands at 134 runs. 

“Thought we bowled really well the first two sessions, just didn’t get the rewards. Message was to hang in there. Things sped up after we got the breakthrough. This wicket is not a lot of bounce, so we looked to hit that 7-8 metre length. It’s all a blur the last couple of hours. Unlike the last couple of games, we’ve given ourselves a really good opportunity. It’s awesome as a captain, so many options to throw the ball to,” Pat Cummins said.
