Three Dutch commandos on training in the United States were shot and wounded while off duty outside an Indianapolis hotel.

The event occurred at about 03:30 am local time on Saturday in the city’s entertainment zone.

According to Indianapolis police, officers discovered the three men with gunshot wounds and transported them to local hospitals.

As per the Dutch defence ministry, one of the men was critically injured and the other two were conscious.

The report states that all three were members of the Commando Corps, one of the Netherlands’ armed forces’ special operations organisations.

The ministry statement added that the incident occurred during their leisure time in front of the hotel where they were staying.

According to local authorities, the men were involved in an earlier altercation with another person or group.

An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department told FOX59, “Right now the information we’re willing to disclose is that it was not something that occurred inside the hotel.

“It was a previous altercation we believe at another location.”

The Dutch defence ministry said the men’s families had been notified and that local police were conducting an investigation.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case.

Several gun violence incidents have occurred in Indianapolis in the recent week, including two that injured two people on Friday night and one that killed one person last weekend.

Indianapolis, often known as Indy, is the state capital and most populous city of Indiana, as well as the seat of Marion County in the United States.
