While a typical Atlantic Hurricane Season averages three major hurricanes, five active tropical cyclones are in the Atlantic Ocean currently for the second time in history. The first time there were five active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic was in 1971.

The five cyclones in the ocean are
Hurricane Paulette, Hurricane Sally, Tropical Storm Teddy, Tropical Storm Vicky and Tropical
Depression Rene.

Hurricane Paulette has already made its appearance on Monday morning in Bermuda pushing landfall in the area. While the hurricane has moved away from Bermuda, strong winds, storms and heavy rainfall are still continuing to impact the island.

“Swells produced by Paulette are affecting portions of Leeward Islands, the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas, and the United States,” the National Hurricane Center (NHS) said. “These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions,” it added.

Tropical Depression Rene, which has been an impactful tropical storm this past weekend, is not expected to impact any land in the recent forecast.

However, Hurricane Sally, Tropical Storm Teddy and Tropical Storm Vicky are going to have different consequences.

Hurricane Sally is currently moving towards the northwest through the Gulf of Mexico and so the mandatory evacuations are underway. The forecast says that Sally will make landfall either Tuesday or Wednesday in Louisiana-Mississippi state region. It is still too early to predict where the Hurricane will hit directly.

Meanwhile, the NHS has cautioned people along the coast to focus on the overall impact of the storm. “Life-threatening storms surge and flash flooding” is what NHS is calling the storm. The authority is expecting an extreme amount of rainfall along with the storm.

Tropical Storm Teddy may strengthen to a hurricane in the next few days. It is currently in the central Atlantic, over 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. If this continues, Teddy will be the 8th hurricane of Atlantic Hurricane Season this year.

According to the forecast, Teddy will change into a major hurricane but predicting its impact on Bermuda is still too early.

Tropical Storm Vicky is over the Eastern Atlantic, a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. “The cyclone is expected to degenerate into a remnant low by Tuesday night, and then dissipate over water on Friday, if not sooner,” the NHS said about Vicky in the forecast.
