Former US president Donald Trump’s Atlantic City hotel and casino was reduced to a smoking pile of rubble on Wednesday, NBC News reported. Known as ‘Trump Plaza’, the building had been closed since 2014. It was once a staple spot for movie stars, athletes and rockstars to party.

Recalling the good old memories, Bernie Dillon, former events manager for the casino, said, “The way we put Trump Plaza and the city of Atlantic City on the map for the whole world was really incredible. Everyone from Hulk Hogan to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it was the whole gamut of personalities.”

Trump Plaza, which was earlier called Atlantic City’s centrepiece, was rocked by loud explosions on Wednesday. The demolition crew positioned explosives at strategic points bringing the structure down by itself. It took just 20 seconds to completely collapse.

Trump had cut ties with the casino in 2009 after a series of bankruptcy filings, but his name continued to be associated with the building. Billionaire investor Carl C Icahn acquired it out of bankruptcy in 2016.

The removal of the building comes less than a month since Joe Biden was sworn-in as the new president.
