Rafael Nadal defeated Diego Schwartzman in straight sets 6-3,6-2,7-6 in the semi-finals of the French Open on Friday. The Spaniard beat Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman in189 minutes to book a berth in the finals of the Roland Garros 2020.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion ran past Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 maintaining a high percentage of first-serve points (81/117) and delivering 38 winners by the end of the match. The match seemed like Nadal avenging his Rome loss to Diego last month as the second seed sealed his 99th victory at Stade Roland Garros.

“It’s always a great moment, to play here, and to be in the Roland Garros final again, that’s truly special,” Nadal said.

He has now won 36 out of the 39 sets he has played in his 12 encounters at this stage in Paris. Although Diego Schwartzman did pressure Nadal for a couple of points, pushing him to deuce in the last set, but Rafael hauled back hard finishing the game in 189 minutes.

“There were a couple of points on which I was under pressure and made a few mistakes, he played really well. I missed a volley here and there. I always knew it would be a difficult match right up until the end with Diego. Two and a half or three weeks ago, I lost in Rome, so I expected a really tough match here. I’m happy with the way I played, I feel like I’ve been improving and today was a great win for me,” Nadal added after the match.
