Officials in Germany Thursday said that tentative signs of an
easing of coronavirus infections are visible, and credited it to anti-transmission
measures, that, according to warnings issued, would have to be followed during
winter and afterwards, AFP reported.

“The curve is flattening,” said Lothar Wieler, President of
RKI, the country’s disease control agency.

Stressing on measures that disrupt the virus’ spread, including
mask-wearing and maintaining social distancing, Koch said “we are not helpless
against the virus”.

However, at the same time, The Rober Koch Institute chief added
that “We must prevent the situation from deteriorating,”.

According to RKI data, Germany added 21,866 new infections
in the last 24 hours.

Wieler further urged the people to follow the AHA-L mantra adopted
in the country to keep infections at a minimum, wherein individuals are asked
to maintain a distance of 1.5 meters (five feet), wash their hands, and wear
masks both indoors and crowded place as well as air their rooms.

Germany, earlier this month, reimposed tough measures,
including closing down leisure and cultural centers and allowing restaurants
and bars to only deliver takeaway.

Chancellor Angela Merkel is, meanwhile, due to hold talks
with the heads of the 16 German states on Monday to decide whether in purview
of the current situation, restrictions should be kept the same or further
toughened.

Merkel has stated that the COVID-situation can only be considered
to have been “more or less overcome” when 60 or 70 per cent of the population has
achieved immunity.
