This threat comes after Palestinians on Friday began a mass departure from northern Gaza in response to Israel’s order for a million or more residents to go to the southern part of the besieged enclave.

This action is a prelude to the expected ground invasion in retaliation for Hamas’s surprise attack. The United Nations expressed grave concern and issued a warning that there would be terrible effects if almost half of Gaza’s densely populated territory was evacuated. The United Nations pleaded with Israel to reevaluate this extraordinary order. Families poured out of Gaza City down a main road, laden with their possessions, in cars, trucks, and even donkey carts.

Over seventy people were killed as jets targeted cars that were traveling south, according to the Hamas media office. According to the Israeli military, its forces briefly entered Gaza in order to confront militants and look for any indications of the roughly 150 individuals kidnapped during Hamas’s attack on Israel about a week ago.

The evacuation was recommended by Israel’s military, which intended to attack concealed Hamas infrastructure located beneath Gaza City. But Palestinians and some Egyptian officials fear that Israel’s ultimate goal may be to force Gaza’s people to flee across Egypt’s southern border.

In addition, the area is without basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies, which is made worse by a nearly total loss of power.
