A tragedy befell the North African nation of Morocco on Saturday after a five-year-old boy trapped in a well died prior to being rescued. The boy, Rayan, had fallen into the well on Tuesday evening. After reports of the incident emerged, Morocco’s monarchy had ordered authorities to spare no expense to rescue the boy alive. However, after long-drawn rescue efforts that drew global attention, the boy was found dead when rescuers finally reached him on Saturday night. Hundreds of Moroccans gathered to grieve the passing of the child, whose fate had kept the North African nation on its toes over the past week.
