Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, in a social media post, announced that she graduated from the University of Oxford. She earned her degree in philosophy, politics and economics. The moments of the ceremony captured on camera were uploaded by the 24-year-old on her social media account. The ceremony was delayed in the pandemic.
In the photos, Malala can be seen in the customary graduation robe and cap, with her family and friends. The human rights activist captioned the photos as, “Some Latin was said and apparently I have a degree.”
In the pictures, Malala’s husband Asser Malik, too, was spotted. He was in attendance, cheering for his wife. The couple looked sharp in the formal attire that they donned.
Asser Malik also shared Malala’s pictures in his Instagram account and captioned it: “The place we first met felt a little more special on Malala’s graduation day.”
Malala’s parents Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai were also present for the ceremony along with the husband.
Asser and Malala recently tied the knot. The private nikkah ceremony was done in the United Kingdom. Only close friends and family attended the ceremony. The couple met in 2018 when Asser was visiting some of his friends at Oxford University.
Earlier, in an article for Vogue, the activist revealed that she had “questioned the patriarchal roots of the institution, the compromises women are expected to make after the wedding, and how laws regarding relationships are influenced by cultural norms and misogyny in many corners of the world”.
“I feared losing my humanity, my independence, my womanhood – my solution was to avoid getting married at all. My conversations with my friends, mentors and my now partner Asser helped me consider how I could have a relationship – a marriage – and remain true to my values of equality, fairness and integrity,” she wrote in the article dated November 11.
