US President Joe Biden, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and VP Kamala Harris were amongst the many prominent international figures who celebrated the Indian festival of lights- Diwali– this year. While the Bidens lit diyas (lamps) at the White House, Harris extended her ‘warmest wishes’ for a holiday filled with light, love, and prosperity.

Along with a picture, posted on POTUS’ Twitter handle, of him and Jill Biden lighting a lamp, Joe Biden wrote, “May the light of Diwali remind us that from the darkness there’s knowledge, wisdom, and truth. From division, unity. From despair, hope. To Hindus, Sikhs, Jains & Buddhists celebrating in America and around the world —from the People’s House to yours, Happy Diwali.”
