The Russian man who beheaded teacher Samuel Paty in a Parisian suburb and was, in turn, shot dead by the French police was buried in the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya on Sunday, reported AFP quoting Russian media.

Abdullakh Anzorov, 18, was a Russian of Chechen origin who had relocated to Paris with his parents, was shot dead by the French law enforcement after he decapitated Paty, in a Paris suburb.

Anzorov, acted following a social media campaign that denounced Paty’s use of cartoons published by satirical weekly Charlie Hedbo in a civics class.

The funeral of Anzorov was attended by some 200 people and was conducted in the village of Shalazhi in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya, according to russian media reports.

In amateur videos from the funeral that was circulated across social media platform Telegram, dozens of men wearing heavy coats were seen walking on snow, chanting and carrying the deceased in a green cloth.

The village was made out of bounds by local security services and only family members were allowed to attend the funeral, reported Russian media.

60 law enforcement officials were also present among the mourners.

A local telegram channel on Sunday evening stated, “There are still traffic jams in neighbouring villages because of the large number of people who want to attend the funeral”

Paty’s beheading sparked outrage in France, with President Emmanuel Macron cracking down on Islamist extremism in the country. France has suffered a series of jihadist attacks since 2015 that has claimed the life of more than 250 people.
