A passenger stabbed himself to death in front of horrified commuters at a central London tube station.

People ran away from Sloane Square in a panic and there was a considerable police presence seen outside the underground station following the horrific incident. One woman shouted, “Run run, run” on Wednesday morning as the incident unfolded.

A man sustained “serious, self-inflicted injuries” and ended up dying at the scene, the British Transport Police has confirmed. A spokesperson for British Transport Police told The Mirror: “Officers were called to Sloane Square Underground station at 10.26 am on 28 June following reports that a man had sustained serious, self-inflicted injuries. Paramedics also attended however despite their best efforts the man has been pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

One person said on social media: “People have been running out in a panic of Sloane Square station. A lady has screamed ‘RUN! RUN! RUN!’ My partner got anxious and sought refuge at the nearby shops. Now she is afraid of using the tube on her way home later.”

A man said that his partner was frightened and sought refuge in a local shop when the incident unfolded. He said that she was afraid of traveling home on the tube after the horrific scene.

Josh Rendall, a councilor for the area, said: “An awfully tragic morning at Sloane Square. Thanks to the police, paramedics, and TfL staff for all they do. Thoughts with the family of the man and those who may have witnessed the event.”

Following the incident, the station was shut down for 45 minutes after the horror scene.

Tory chairman Greg Hands added: “Terrible news at Sloane Square station. Thoughts are with the man’s family and all the emergency responders in what must have been a very distressing scene.”
