Luis Suarez could be on the way to a sensational return to the Premier League, with Steven Gerrard-led Aston Villa reportedly keen on the Uruguayan.

According to Spanish football reporter Gerard Romero, Suarez has reportedly rejected offers from several clubs and is ‘focused’ on a reunion with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

“Luis Suarez has ruled out offers from Palmeiras, Corinthians and Atlético Mineiro – as well as one from Arabia – to focus on the proposal from Aston Villa from his former teammate Gerrard,” tweeted Romero.

After an illustrious career at Liverpool and Barcelona, Suarez moved to Atletico Madrid in September 2020. In his debut season, the Uruguayan helped the Spanish side to their fifth La Liga title, their first in seven years, scoring 21 goals in the process and ending the season as Atletico Madrid’s top scorer.

Villa manager Gerrard had a great relationship with Suarez when they played together at Liverpool given the Uruguayan’s talent, it’s understandable why Gerrard could be looking to secure his signature.

“I don’t think anyone ever looks forward to playing against Luis Suarez, he is a fantastic talent and a very dangerous player. He is a fantastic team-mate, probably the best player I have played with,” Gerrard had said back in 2015.

However, a move to Villa will have to wait till the summer when the the 34-year-old’s contract expires with Atletico Madrid.

Gerrard has already brought another former teammate of his, Philippe Coutinho, back to Villa. The Brazilian made an immediate impact on his debut, coming off the bench to score the equalizer against Manchester United in a 2-2 draw in the weekend.

Villa have also added Everton full-back Lucas Digne and AS Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen to their roster in January, and Suarez’s addition in summer could make for an intimidating squad.
