A TikTok user who was filming a before-and-after video of his landscaping work in Florida, ran into a burning house to rescue people trapped inside. Nathan Wright and April Spell, who was accompanying him during the shoot, noticed smoke billowing from a nearby house in a Jacksonville neighbourhood and ran toward the property. The pair found a woman was inside, attempting to pull her paralyzed husband to safety. Wright immediately rescued the man while Spell helped the woman out.

“It wasn’t a thought, it was just go,” Wright told News4Jax.

“We could hear her say, ‘Yes, we’re in here’,” said Spell. “And at the point I’m not going to let her—I can hear her voice, so if I can hear her voice, she has to be close enough to where we can get in and get her and get him out,” she added.

Although Wright dropped his phone upon entering the property, the video managed to capture the smoking house from outside and caught the audio of the rescue.

“Damn their s**t on fire for real. I don’t think they even know,” he can be heard saying as he runs towards the house.

“Is someone in there?” he repeated. Spell can be heard advising: “Y’all get down.”

Wright captioned the video: “We saved some beautiful people today. Thank you lord for the strength, you is the best.”

According to News4Jax, another man was trapped further in the house that Wright and Spell. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t get down the hallway to get him out,” Wright said.

A spokesperson for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said that one person who was inside the house was hospitalized in serious condition.

Wright and Spell earned praise for their heroic effort. One firefighter commented: “I am so proud to see this. Great job.”

“It takes a special kind of person to risk their life to save another,” commented another user.

“This type of love for human life is what I live for,” noted another.
