Manchester City’s talismanic forward Sergio Aguero on Thursday confirmed his test result for COVID-19 returned positive after coming into close contact with another positive case recently.

Taking to Twitter, Aguero said, “After a close contact, I’ve been self-isolating and the latest test I took was positive for COVID 19. I had some symptoms and I’m following doctor’s orders for recovery. Take care, everyone!”

The Argentine striker, who according to Sky Sports has been in self-isolation since January 10 after the close contact, is the latest in a growing list of COVID-19 positive players for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Eric Garcia, Scott Carson and Cole Palmer are among the nine players to have contracted the virus, with City being one of the worst-affected clubs in the Premier League.

Aguero has struggled with multiple injuries this season and did not feature in City’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday. He also missed the Premier League encounters against Crystal Palace and Brighton, having been on the sidelines since playing the final minutes of their 3-1 win over Chelsea on January 3.
