A five-person submersible vehicle carrying affluent adventurers on a $250,000 excursion to see the debris of the 1912 Titanic disaster 12,500 feet (3,800m) undersea in the Atlantic off Canada has gone missing. Social media users are comparing this disaster to David Szymanski’s 2022 first-person submarine simulation horror game Iron Lung.

Unlike real-life tragedies, which entail actual suffering and loss, video games are created up and largely meant to be fun. One user explored that aspect and tweeted, “Iron lungs safer i think.”

This parallel is intriguing in light of the fact that Titan, the missing tourist submersible, was controlled by a game controller and contained “off-the-shelf components.”

As new details about those aboard emerged, the frantic search for a submersible that went missing during a mission to explore the Titanic wreck continued on Tuesday.

The submersible vanished on Sunday after losing communication with the research vessel Polar Prince as part of an OceanGate Expeditions tour that gives tourists a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to investigate the Titanic debris.

Hamish Harding, a British billionaire and the proprietor of Action Aviation, as well as well-known Pakistani industrialist Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, were among the five passengers on the ship. The identity of the other two passengers is unknown.

The OceanGate Expeditions submersible that vanished on Sunday had only made three trips since the company started providing them in 2021. The business stated on its website that the excursions’ goal is to “further document the Titanic and its rate of decay.”

The Titanic’s wreckage is located 900 nautical miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Coast Guard has brought equipment to the region to conduct searches. The agency’s present priority is to send as many assets and technical specialists as possible to the area as soon as feasible.
