Nicole Shanahan, the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, had a brief affair with Tesla boss Elon Musk, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. 

The affair prompted Brin to file for divorce and terminated his friendship with Musk, the report added.

Elon Musk, who has been in the headlines over the past months owing to his interest in buying Twitter, had an affair with Shanahan in December last year. Brin and his wife were  separated but still living together, The Journal said. 

Brin, who married Shanahan in 2018, filed for divorce in January, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to the Journal, some weeks after learning about the affair.

Musk apologised to Brin at a party earlier this year. The latter accepted the apology but isn’t on good terms with Musk, according to sources familiar with the situation, the Journal cited.

Nicole Shanhan is a California-based attorney and the founder and president of the Bia-Echo Foundation. She is 33 years old and has one daughter with Brin. 

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that Shanhan and Brin met at a yoga retreat called Wanderlust around seven years ago before they decided to get married.

Both of them had been married before. While the Google co-founder was married to Anne Wojcicki, co-founder of genetics company 23andMe Inc., Shanahan’s first husband was a finance executive.

Shanahan’s went to college at The National University of Singapore.

As per mashoor.media, Shanahan’s net worth, as of 2022, is approximately $50 million. She was a patent expert at ‘Townsend and Townsend and Crew, LLP’ in 2009. She joined the law office ‘Rutan and Tucker, LLP’ in Costa Mesa, Orange County, as an IP paralegal and data set subject matter expert.
