Social media users have criticized the extensive search for the five billionaire-carrying OceanGate submersible as hypocritical and have contrasted it with the minimal effort that was made to find the capsized boat carrying 750 migrants in the Mediterranean.

The Titan was on its way to the location where the renowned ocean liner perished more than a century ago when it was reported overdue on Sunday afternoon, some 435 miles (700 kilometers) south of St. John’s, Newfoundland. The expedition’s leader, OceanGate Expeditions, has been making annual journeys since 2021 to document the Titanic’s deterioration and the surrounding undersea habitat.

Rescuers have hurried ships, planes, and other tools to the location of the missing person. The US Coast Guard reported on Thursday that a Canadian ship had dispatched an underwater robot, and a French research center reported that a deep-diving robot with cameras, lights, and arms had also joined the operation.

The boat that capsized in the Mediterranean, on the other hand, is considered one of the biggest migrant disasters in recent Mediterranean history.

On June 14, just after midnight, a fishing vessel that was overloaded sank in international waters close to Greece. Women and up to 100 children who were confined to the ship’s hold are thought to have died along with the other more than 500 people who are likely to have perished. There were no women or children among the 104 survivors who were taken from the river that morning, and so far, 81 bodies have been found.

There is disagreement regarding how the boat turned over; some survivors claim that the Greek coast guard was towing the smuggling boat when it capsized. Greek officials, however, assert that the ship was never being towed by a Greek ship and that the migrants, who were trying to reach Italy, had turned down numerous offers of help.

Many of the refugees aiming to enter Europe, according to media sources, were Pakistanis fleeing the poverty and political unrest that are currently devouring their country. However, among the men and young people who escaped were also Syrians, Egyptians, and Palestinians. On June 18, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, declared a day of national mourning as the huge death toll among Pakistanis became apparent. Human traffickers have been transporting desperate people from the Middle East and Africa into Europe for years, and this most recent tragedy in the Mediterranean is part of a long history of migrant tragedies at sea.

The disparity in the two tragedies’ search procedures has enraged social media users.
