The United States of America witnessed two monumental changes in its system. First was the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic that wreaked havoc in the country and its health infrastructure and the second was the collapse of former President Donald Trump-led government. Both these changes had brought with them two conspiracy theories that are detrimental to the US more than the virus itself.

The two theories are – President Joe Biden fraudulently won the elections and the second is that one should not take COVID-19 vaccines.

While many believe that these believes are not held by a significant number of people many completely rule out the possibility of any apprehensions about the two events. However, a recently conducted poll has revealed the opinions of Americans behind the two theories and here is what they say.

According to a poll conducted by Monmouth University, about one-third or 32% of Americans continue to believe that Joe Biden’s victory in 2020 was due to voter fraud – a number that has not budged since the November election.

At first glance in the crosstabs, it looks like the number of “Republicans” who believe this has been trending down while the number of independents who agree has ticked up, said the report.

Furthermore, 14% of the American public say they will never accept Biden as their President, including 3 in 10 (29%) Republicans and Republican leaners.

“The continuing efforts to question the validity of last year’s election is deepening the partisan divide in ways that could have long-term consequences for our Democracy, even if most Americans don’t quite see it that way yet,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

As far as vaccination status and the thought process behind it is concerned, at least 34% had not received the vaccine against COVID till June 2021, the time when this poll was conducted

However, it was also noted that about 36% of adult Americans who believe Biden won only because of fraud have, in fact, received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This means only about 51% of adults had received a vaccine dose and think Biden won the election fair and square. A slightly lower 45% haven’t received a vaccine dose or think Biden didn’t win fair and square. (An additional 4% have gotten a dose and aren’t sure if Biden won legitimately.)

According to this survey, the conspiracy theory about election fraud and not having gotten a dose of the vaccine are correlated. The Monmouth poll showed that 64% of people who falsely think that Biden won because of voter fraud also have not received a vaccine dose.

The poll was conducted by telephone from June 9 to 14, 2021 with 810 adults in the United States. The question results in this release have a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percentage points
