The annual floods in Assam has claimed the lives of 108 animals in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR). The animals include nine rhinos, four wild buffaloes, seven wild boars, two swamp deers and 82 hog deers, who died in flood-related incidents.

Government of Assam released the details of animals who died in flood-related incidents. 

On Saturday, the carcass of a female rhino, who died of due to drowning, was recovered from the park. 

As per the bulletin issued by the park authorities on Sunday, nearly 85% area of the park, spread over 430 sq km is submerged under water.

Other than animals who have died of drowning, there are others who were struck by vehicles on National Highway (NH) 37 as they tried to cross to the higher areas of Karbi Anglong. 

On Saturday, an adult male rhino was spotted resting near NH37. “The
animal was very exhausted as it was in water for 3-4 days and we were planning
to shift it to the state zoo in Guwahati. But after resting for several hours
it moved back inside. We are keeping a watch on it,” said P Sivakumar, director
KNPTR, Hindustan Times reported.

The animal was guarded by Nagaon police and the forest officials.

After resting for several hours, it moved back to the park on Sunday morning.
