On the prestigious occasion of Diana%u2019s 60th birthday on July 1, her sons Prince William and Harry unveiled the much-awaited statue of Princess of Wales at Kensington Palace. The statue found its permanent home Sunken Garden at London%u2019s Kensington Palace, a place which Princess Diana once cherished.

The statue shows Princess Diana surrounded by three children and is the product of renowned artist Ian Rank-Broadley. The statue was commission by the Duke of Cambridge and Sussex.  While there was some confusion regarding who are the three children, and what do they mean?

The sculptor recently revealed their reason behind the same. As we know Diana loved children, and before marrying Prince Charles she worked as a nanny and a kindergarten assistant. According to Kensington Palace, the children represent the universality and generational impact of the princess%u2019 work.

Popularly called People%u2019s Princess was the patron of more than 100 charities throughout her lifetime. One such incident that took place and created a special place for her in everyone%u2019s mind was her shaking hands with an AIDS patient at London Middlesex Hospital. By doing that she debunked the false belief that the illness could be spread by touch.

Known for her philanthropic endeavors she also campaigned against landmines, and was affectionately known as %u201CThe Queen of Hearts%u201D. Commenting on the statue and its meaning, the sculptor, Ian Rank-Broadley said: %u201CDiana, Princess of Wales was an icon who touched the lives of people right around the world, so it has been a privilege to work alongside Prince William and Prince Harry on this statue which commemorates her life.
