The deadly shooting of a teen by a police officer has left authorities struggling to handle an expanding crisis, and French police braced for more violent protests on Thursday.

Videos show fires set on the streets of the French cities of Nanterre and Lille on Thursday as protests continue. Further, a video showing rioters trying to burn down the town hall in Clichy, France has gone viral.

The streets of Lille were littered with broken glass, and police and emergency vehicles, as well as officers in riot gear, could be seen driving down the streets.

Additionally, a burning car was observed, with firefighters attempting to put it out.

A structure with billows of smoke was visible, and firetrucks and firefighters were gathered around it. Video also showed police strolling the streets of Nanterre while wearing riot gear.

In other parts of the city, burning trash and a wall with the words “Vengeance pour Nahel” (roughly translated as “Revenge for Nahel,” or “Revenge for Nahel,” in reference to the adolescent who was shot and killed earlier this week) spray painted on it could be seen.

Gerald Darmanin, the French interior minister, announced on Twitter that more than 100 people had been detained during the nationwide demonstrations on Thursday night.

He stated that police were told to “intervene systematically” and showed support for the firefighters and police officers who “are doing a courageous job.”

To put an end to any potential turmoil, the French Interior Ministry announced it will deploy 40,000 police officers around the nation on Thursday, including 5,000 in Paris. According to a government source who spoke to CNN on Thursday under the condition of anonymity and cited French professional conventions, ministers were instructed to postpone non-urgent travel and stay in Paris as a result of the protests.
