Sarla Devi, mother of gangster Vikas Dubey who was killed in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh police on July 10, on Wednesday appealed to her younger son Deep Prakash who has been missing since the Kanpur ambush that left eight policemen dead, to surrender or ‘police will kill you’.

“Deep Prakash please come forward and surrender, else police will kill you and your family. You will get safety of police, you have done nothing, don’t hide because of your relation with your brother Vikas Dubey,” Sarla Devi appealed, according to news agency ANI.

The dreaded gangster’s mother had earlier refused to even attend his last rites saying that she had nothing to do with Dubey and his deeds. In fact, she stayed with Deep Prakash and his family in a separate house as the two brothers did not get along. Fearing arrest, Deep Prakash went into hiding soon after the Kanpur ambush when Dubey’s henchmen killed eight members of a police team that had gone to arrest him from Bikru village.

Vikas  Dubey was arrested from Ujjain’s  Mahakal temple seven days later and killed in an escape attempt, according to police. The car that Dubey was being taken to Kanpur overturned and the gangster tried to escape and was shot dead, the Uttar Pradesh police said.
