The Taliban on Wednesday paraded some of the US military equipment captured by them during the Afghanistan takeover in mid-August, reported AFP. This comes as a team of technical experts landed from Qatar to repair the facility and get it running for the civilian flights to operate.

The Islamist militants, who have not yet announced their new government, are celebrating the withdrawal of United States troops from the strife-hit country as a historic win for the group. Taliban were thrown off power in 2001 by the US after they reportedly hosted a terrorist group Al-Qaeda, responsible for the barbaric 9/11 twin tower attacks.

According to AFP, on Wednesday, a long line of green Humvees and armoured fighting vehicles, probably the one’s US left behind, drove in single file along a highway outside Kandahar many flying white-and-black Taliban flags.

One Black Hawk helicopter was also spotted flying over Kandahar recently, which indicates that the terrorist group has captured an Afghan army pilot since the Taliban had none, reported AFP.

The scenes of Taliban celebrations came hours after US President Joe Biden gave a resistant speech defending America’s decision to end the longest military war and the speedy evacuation that left many American allies and supporters behind in the war-torn country.

Meanwhile, on the Kabul airport renovations, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday that repairs need to be made in the airport that was hit by multiple bombings and rocket attacks recently so that civilian flights can resume for Afghans who want to flee the Taliban-led country.

Turkey, a part of the NATO mission, has been responsible for security at the Kabul airport for the last six years.

The goal behind the repairs is to resume flights for aid, after the United Nations warned of a looming “humanitarian catastrophe” in war-ravaged Afghanistan, and to provide a way out for those wanting to flee the new regime.

Afghanistan witnessed a swift shift of power on August 15 after the UN recognised terrorist group taken over Kabul following President Ashraf Ghilani’s resignation.
