Two terminals at Florida‘s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport were evacuated for about three hours on July 10, 2021, due to a security threat.

In an initial announcement around 9.35 am EDT on Saturday, the airport said, “A security investigation is impacting traffic along the upper-level roadway of FLL at Terminals 2 and 3. Areas of T2 and T3 have been evacuated as a precaution. If you’re heading to the airport, we ask for your patience as we work to resolve this matter.”

Soon, travelers aboard planes and outside the evacuation zone took to Twitter to say there was a “bomb threat.” Some people also reported flight delays.

So, I fly into a WHOLE bomb evacuation at Fort Lauderdale airport, oh whew! Check on your family and friends who are traveling to Fort Lauderdale airport or work here. They are ALL outside. BSO, the Bomb unit, and local municipalities are out in FULL force!” another person tweeted.

Around 11 am, Broward Sheriff tweeted that the terminals were closed following a bomb threat and asked people to avoid the area.

“At around 8:49 a.m., BSO deputies were notified of a bomb threat @FLLFlyer. As a precaution, deputies have excavated Terminals 2 & 3 and have also shutdown entry into the airport. BSO’s bomb squad is investigating. Persons headed to the airport are asked to avoid the area,” the department tweeted.
