United States First Lady Jill Biden met with military families on Wednesday at the North Carolina’s Marine Corps Base at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, according to US media reports citing statements from the White House.
The First Lady held “private meetings and engage in a listening session with several military and veteran family members” while visiting Lejeune, according to statements from the White House East Wing.
Spouses of United States military personnel also traveled along with First Lady Jill Biden on her Wednesday trip. Marine Corps commandant General David H. Berger’s partner Donna Berger and Marine Corps Sergeant Major Troy E. Black spouse Stacie Black joined the United States First Lady, according to reports from CNN.
United States President Joe Biden with his wife and First Lady Jill Biden were present at the Dover Air Force base in Delaware on Sunday and stood with the families of the 13 United States service members who were killed in Afghanistan last week. The remains of the fallen service members made their way back to the country at the Delaware base on Sunday.
On the same day, First Lady Jill Biden posted a message on her social media handles honoring the 13 fallen service members by mentioning them by name. She further wrote, “We will always honor your legacy and the sacrifice of your families”, according to reports from CNN.
On Saturday, officials identified 13 US service members who lost their lives in an ISIS-K attack outside of Kabul’s airport. One among them was Marine Corps Sergeant Nicole L. Gee who had been cradling Afghan children before they were evacuated from Afghanistan.
Gee was previously stationed at Camp Lejeune and was working in the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit as a maintaince technician, according to reports from CNN. It was not clear if First Lady Jill Biden met with the family of Gee.
