The United States completed the biggest military airlift and carried more than 120,000 people from war-torn Afghanistan. The White House released details of the country’s plans to resettle the Afghan migrants. The resettlement programme of the United States includes Afghan allies and vulnerable individuals evacuated.

Upon arrival in the country, the evacuees were primarily tested for COVID-19 and will also be offered vaccinations before entering the country. Further medical screenings and health care services to the “vulnerable Afghans” and those who applied for Special Immigrant Visas will be provided at military bases in the United States.

Those who have been airlifted from Afghanistan will also be going through a “screening process” that will include biographic security and security reviews. The process will be conducted by a grouping of United States officials including law enforcement agencies, intelligence and counter-terrorism.

The tweet from the White House read, “The screening process involves biometric and biographic security reviews conducted by our intelligence, law enforcement, and counterterrorism professionals who are working around the clock to vet all Afghans before they are allowed into the United States.”

The resettlement policy of the United States includes connecting airlifted families from Afghanistan to organisations that work on assisting refugees to help them kick off their new lives in the United States. The White House wrote, “Our goal is to safely and efficiently welcome these allies and vulnerable Afghans, while taking all appropriate safety and public health measures.”

The tweet added, “National security professionals and refugee resettlement organizations are working tirelessly. We are grateful for their incredible work, and moved by the generosity of so many Americans who are volunteering, donating, and welcoming these Afghans to the US.”

The increasing number of refugees in the United States has also attracted opposing views from various members of the Republican party. Biden’s idea of American foreign policy has also largely been in the crosshairs of critics.
