US President Joe Biden‘s approval ratings fell by 7% following the unfolding situation in Afghanistan, which has so far introduced political instability in the country. The approval ratings were measured at a record low, according to media reports.

The national poll, which was conducted a day after the Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan’s national capital Kabul, showed that only 46% of American adults approved of the President’s actions.

The national polls have been conducted on a weekly basis since Joe Biden took over the White House earlier this year in January.

According to a similar poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos last week, the approval ratings plunged from 53%, the news agency reported.

A separate Ipsos snap poll showed that Biden had garnered the worst rating so far, in comparison to all the United States Presidents who presided over the White House while the war in Afghanistan was underway, which lasted for nearly two decades.

In addition to Biden, former US Presidents like Barack Obama and Donald Trump have been in office while the Afghan war was going. George W. Bush, former President and a member of the Republican party, triggered the war after the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Biden addressed the country on Monday about the evolving situation in Afghanistan and presented a defensive stance on his decision to pull out American troops. He said that he squarely stood behind his decision of withdrawing United States troops from Afghanistan and putting an end to a war that had lasted for nearly two decades.

The 46th President of the United States went on to say that nation-building was never the objective of the United States in Afghanistan.

He said, “Afghanistan was never supposed to be nation-building or create a unified, centralised democracy. Our only vital national interest in Afghanistan remains today what it has always been preventing a terrorist attack on American homeland”, news agency ANI reported.
