Robert Lewandowski on Sunday scored his first competitive goals for Barcelona. The striker, celebrating his 34th birthday, was named the player of the match after the Catalan club defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Estadio Anoeta.

Lewandowski scored twice as Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati found the back of the net once each. Alexander Isak was the only goal-scorer for the hosts.
After transferring to Camp Nou on a jaw-dropping €50 million deal until 2027, Lewandowski impressed in pre-season. However, he failed to influence Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano, which ended in a draw.

However, the former Bayern Munich striker took only 46 seconds to score at Real Sociedad. Alejandro Balde led Barca’s counter on the left flant and delivered a low cross to Lewandowski who fired into the bottom corner from eight yards.

In the 66th minute, Dembele opened the floodgates for Barcelona by converting Ansu Fati’s assist from the edge of the box. Lewandowski, two minutes later, slotted a richoted ball into the goalpost, giving his team a 3-1 advantage.
Ansu Fati, in the 79th minute, delivered the fourth strike. Barcelona now have won their first game in the Spanish top-tier. They are fifth on the La Liga points table with two points.

On Sunday, Barcelona’s star new signing, ex-Leeds United forward Raphinha, came on as a second-half substitute. Jules Kounde was not named in the squad as he is still not registered because of financial reasons following his transfer from Sevilla.
Barcelona will now play Manchester City in a friendly on Wednesday. They face Valladolid at the Nou Camp on Sunday.
