An aristocrat and her partner have been arrested in the United Kingdom for child neglect after the pair went missing with their newborn baby in early January. The child is still missing and the search for the infant is currently ongoing.

Marten, 35, and Mark Gordon, 48, were arrested after a member of the public spotted the couple in Brighton, southern England, on Monday night, the police said Tuesday. The two remain in the custody of the authorities.

The search for the couple and newborn began in early January when the pair disappeared with the baby, one or two days after being born without receiving medical attention. At the time police released several appeals and offered a £10,000 ($12,090) reward for information that would lead to their discovery.

Who are Constance Marten?

Marten is the daughter of aristocrat Napier Marten, a film and music producer. He was also a page to the later Queen Elizabeth II. She is estranged from her father.

Constance once graced the pages of the magazine Tatler. She was born in 1987 to Napier and Virginie De Selliers. Napier’s mother, Mary Anna Marten was a goddaughter to the Queen Mother and a playmate of Princess Margaret. She grew up in a lap of luxury. She and her younger brothers – Maximilian, now 34, and Tobias, 31 – lived in a magnificent 5,000-acre Georgian mansion in England, which served as the setting of the 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, starring Ewan McGregor and Gwyneth Paltrow.

She attended St Mary’s Shaftesbury, an independent Roman Catholic girls’ school. she studied Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Leeds, starting in 2008. As a student, she was featured as Tatler’s “Babe of the Month.” She then became a researcher at the London office of Al-Jazeera, the Qatar-owned, English-language news channel, according to her LinkedIn profile. She left the job after just eleven months, after which she worked briefly as a project manager at Rich Mix theatre, in east London, and as a freelance photographer.

In 2014, she became a qualified journalist and spent a day interning at the Daily Mail. She also enrolled in an acting course at East 15 drama school in Essex. She dropped out in 2016 after reportedly entering into a relationship with Mark Gordon, who was once found guilty of kidnap and sexual battery, and even spent 20 years in jail.

Marten’s father who expressed his “immense relief” that his daughter had been found has previously told the Independent that his daughter became estranged from her family after she met Gordon. He also accused him of tearing her away from her friends.

“Darling Constance, even though we remain estranged at the moment, I stand by, as I have always done and as the family has always done, to do whatever is necessary for your safe return to us,” he said when the search was still on for his daughter. “The past eight years have been beyond painful for all the family as well as your friends, as they must have been for you. And to see you so vulnerable again is testing in the extreme. Please Constance, find the courage to present yourself to the police as soon as possible.”
