Greg Jacob will be testifying at the January 6 committee’s public hearing on Thursday. He is former US Vice President Mike Pence‘s legal aide and is known to oppose Donald Trump’s “rigged election” claims.

The testifying panel will also include J. Michael Luttig, a retired judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, according to the January 6 committee.

Who is Greg Jacob?

Greg Jacob’s first association with the United States government was in 2001, when he became an attorney-advisor in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel.

According to reports from Bloomberg, he also served in the United States Department of Labor when George W. Bush was President. He eventually became the solicitor of labor, the top legal role at the agency.

Jacob, whose age is not clear, graduated from Chicago Law School. He was also a former clerk for Judge Jacques Wiener, who served on the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals at New Orleans.

Greg Jacob now works at the O’Melveny & Myers, a legal firm where he used to work before joining Pence’s legal team. He now reportedly handles Employee Retirement Income Security Act and labor and employment issues.

Jacob is known to oppose Trump’s “rigged election” claims, which were crafted by the former President’s legal aide John Eastman, according to Associated Press reports.

Jacob has previously testified to the January 6 panel behind closed doors. He explained that then-Vice President Pence refused to go along with Trump’s plan to overturn the elections. Jacob said the idea was utterly against some 130 years of precedent in American history, “entirely made up.”

With two live witnesses Thursday, the House panel intends to show how Trump’s false claims of a fraudulent election left him grasping for alternatives as courts turned back dozens of lawsuits challenging the vote.
