A Ukrainian mother who survived a possible assassination attempt posed on the cover of Playboy magazine.

After reconstructive surgery, TV host Iryna Bilotserkovets can be seen wearing a metal bikini and an eye patch.

Who is Iryna Bilotserkovets?

Iryna, whose husband works as an adviser to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, was hit by gunshots while driving home with her three children last year.

The tragedy occurred on February 26, 2022, only three days after Russia invaded Ukraine, and she required months of emergency care and reconstructive surgery in Berlin.

Despite doctors in Ukraine telling her she was “likely going to die,” the mother overcame the odds and has now become a symbol of resistance in her homeland.

She is presently on the cover of the first Playboy issue printed in the country since Vladimir Putin’s war began.

When she saw herself in the mirror for the first time following therapy, she told the magazine, “An eye missing, tubes sticking out everywhere, hair shaved off from surgery.”

“I was Frankenstein’s monster, with stitches, scars, and wounds everywhere.” My jaw had broken like a twig.

“I no longer have a pretty face, but the rest of my body is beautiful.”

Ms Bilotserkovets stated that she was left with a missing eye, a shattered jaw, and scars all over her body after four procedures.

But she confesses that staying alive was more essential than worrying about how she looked.

“It wasn’t a question of preserving my beauty; it was a question of whether I would live or not,” she added.

The model, who now works with Ukraine’s cultural forces to put on events for troops, was named a heroine in Playboy Ukraine’s ‘Women Stay Strong’ issue, the first in more than 18 months.

The magazine examines the “resilience of Ukrainian women who were injured during the war but have not lost their thirst for life.”

Playboy has announced that all sales revenues would go towards emergency medical equipment for the Ukrainian army.

Following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the publisher discontinued its magazine edition and only functioned online.

This month’s issue is the first to be printed since the beginning of the year.
