Ruslana Danilkina, a 19-year-old Ukrainian soldier, lost her leg in the war against Russia. Despite her injury, she remains determined to help her country and has become an inspiration to many.

Who is Ruslana Danilkina?

Danilkina was born and raised in the Ukrainian city of Odesa, and she was only 18 years old when she chose to fight for her nation in February 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion. She was deployed to a communications team and spent several months on the front lines.

Danilkina was injured in a Russian shelling attack in April. She had her leg amputated after suffering a severe leg injury. Danilkina refused to give up despite her injury. She went through a lengthy and painful recovery process before learning to walk again with a prosthetic leg.  She is now teaching newly amputed soldiers how to walk with a prosthesis.

Many individuals throughout the world have been influenced by Danilkina’s story. She has become a symbol of the Ukrainian people’s bravery and resilience. She has also stressed the need of assisting Ukraine in its struggle against Russia. She is a gifted artist and musician, as well as an ardent supporter of animal rights.

Danilkina told DW News that she was motivated to continue serving her country even after losing her limb. She said, “I want to show everyone that even if you lose something, you can still live a full and happy life.”
