Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, refused to endorse GOP Arizona governor, Doug Ducey who said he wouldn’t support the ‘decertification’ of the 2020 Presidential election. 

Ducey tweeted on Friday, “There will be no decertification of the 2020 election — the audit does not call for one, and even if it had, there is no lawful way to decertify. As we have every step of the way, Arizona will follow the law.”

Meanwhile, Trump responded in his own statement, saying, “Rumors are that Doug Ducey, the weak RINO Governor from Arizona, is being pushed by Old Crow Mitch McConnell to run for the U.S. Senate. He will never have my endorsement or the support of MAGA Nation!” 

Notably, Ducey has served as the Arizona governor since 2015, for two consecutive terms, and as such is not eligible to run for a third term straight, under the state law. While there’s no clarity about his political future, Ducey did announce he didn’t intend to contest the Arizona US Senate seat in 2022.

While Trump had earlier endorsed Ducey in 2018 and appeared with him during 2020 presidential stops, the former soured after being unable to win Arizona. Refusing to endorse Ducey further, Trump said the Arizona governor “could not get the nomination after failing to perform on the Voter Fraud in Arizona.” 

The controversial Maricopa County audit was conducted by the state Senate, which is full of pro-Trump Republicans. However, no evidence of fraud was unearthed, but Trump and his loyalists remain unconvinced. Ducey, meanwhile, has taken a stance against the 45th US President, saying that even if this exercise had yielded evidence, there’d be no way to reverse the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election, which went in Democrat Joe Biden’s favour. 

Meanwhile, Trump has extended his support to GOP candidate Kari Lake, who not only believes in Trump’s vision of making America great again but has also endorsed his false claims of winning the 2020 election.
