As temperatures in the Northeast dropped 10-30 degrees below average in the United States as a result of the “once in a generation” Arctic Blast, a video went viral on social media that showed a cup of water thrown from a window turn into ice before it could fall to the ground.

In the video, a child is seen expressing amazement as an adult throws out a cup of water from the window and it turns into ice dust in real time and is blown away by the wind.

“Temperatures will be 10 to 30 degrees below average over parts of the Northeast into the coastal mid-Atlantic,” the National Weather Service said in a bulletin early Saturday.

New York State and New England are both under wind chill warnings and advisories, it said. The meteorological service also warned that strong winds could cause property damage and power outages over the High Plains and the northern Rocky Mountain front.

It happens after the region saw dangerously low temperatures on Friday. A wind chill of minus 101 degrees Fahrenheit was measured at the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire.

The two largest cities in New England, Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, among others, shuttered their schools on Friday due to worries over the possibility of hypothermia and frostbite for kids walking to school or waiting for buses.

A storm is to blame for the death of a child in Southwick, Massachusetts, which is close to Springfield. The baby died when winds toppled a tree, which then fell and hit the vehicle the baby was in.

The infant’s 23-year-old mother suffered severe wounds. The age and gender of the infant were not immediately known.
