Shahraban K, a 23-year-old German woman of Iraqi descent, has been charged with brutally killing her identical twin in an effort to make it look like she had already died. According to information provided by the German authorities, the accused enlisted the help of her lover Sheqir K to carry out the horrible murder in August of last year.

Instead of being the victim, the woman who had been missing had, according to prosecutors and police in Bavaria, located a lookalike on Instagram and killed her along with a friend to stage her own demise and “start a new life.”

Here’s all you need to know about the 23-year-old woman who murdered her doppelganger to start a new life:

Who is Shahraban K?

According to court documents where surnames are concealed, the body that was previously believed to be that of 23-year-old Shahraban K because it was found inside her Mercedes has now been identified as that of 23-year-old beauty blogger Khadidja O.

The two women were never supposed to meet, at least not on paper. Khadidja O lived in Heilbronn, Baden-Wurttemberg, some 100 miles away from Shahraban K, who resided in Munich.

Police in the southern city of Ingolstadt, around 50 miles north of the region’s capital of Munich, revealed on Monday that arrest warrants on suspicion of murder have now been issued for the woman and her friend. Days after the body was discovered, the two remained in police custody.

According to a statement from police in upper Bavaria north, the mystery began last August 16, when the body of a woman who had been stabbed to death was discovered by the parents of the 23-year-old German-Iraqi female in her parked vehicle in Ingolstadt.

However, a subsequent autopsy “raised serious doubts about the woman’s identity,” they said in a statement two days later.

The father of the 23-year-old was relieved, but not in the way he had anticipated. “The police came to us … and said, ‘Good news, your daughter is alive.’ We were so happy. We thought she was dead,” the woman’s father was quoted by the German  Daily Bild.

In contrast, police said that they had detained the woman and another 23-year-old man of Kosovan ancestry under suspicion of manslaughter two days later. Since then, the two suspects have been detained, and late last week, arrest warrants on suspicion of murder were issued.

It turns out that the deceased was another 23-year-old woman who “looked strikingly similar” to the suspect, according to the police.

“The suspects devised a plan to look online for a woman who resembled the German-Iraqi suspect, kill her, and place her corpse in such a way that the corpse would be mistaken for the suspect,” police said in a statement Monday.

“She offered them various benefits in exchange for a meeting. It did not, however, come to a meeting with those women,” prosecutor Dr. Veronika Grieser stated.

The primary suspect, according to the Bavarian police, made contact with the victim via social media in early August and scheduled a meeting for August 16. In order to pick up the victim at his home, she drove with a companion to the larger Heilbronn area, around 150 miles west of Ingolstadt, according to the police.

The victim was “insidiously and for base motives” enticed out of the car and killed with a knife in a forested location, the statement continued.
