As COVID-19 set foot in the US, several civilians were left on their own, finding refuge on the roadside.
The homelessness crisis is widely evident in big cities of the USA, including Oregon.

“I would be an idiot to sit here and tell you that things are better today than they were five years ago with regard to homelessness,” stated Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.
“People in this city aren’t stupid. They can open their eyes,” he added.

Wheeler has now put emergency powers to use to ban encampments on roadways. Wheeler added that homelessness is the “most important issue facing our community, bar none.”

Across cities, leaders are now incorporating stringent measures to remove homeless camps and address the crisis.

In the city of Seattle, Mayor Bruce Harrell called for action on encampments in his first few months in office.

Several tents and belongings were cleared on Wednesday near City Hall.

Several activists have criticized the sweep, occupying camps and halting the process.
