Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who got into a near-fatal car chase with paparazzi two days ago spend $2 million a year on security.

After the royal family took away their bodyguards, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had to pay a significant fee to safeguard themselves and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Harry even filed a lawsuit against British officials last year after discovering that he could not bring private armed guards with him to England because of UK law because private security is so vital to the pair.

Recent pictures showed Markle’s hiking companion, the former bodyguard of Kim Kardashian.

The redheaded royal, who has been living in the US since he and Markle resigned from their royal duties in 2020, has also claimed that private security is one of the factors driving his quest to negotiate lucrative partnerships there.

According to security experts, Harry and Meghan’s 24-hour security might have cost up to $3 million, Forbes reported in 2021.

Harry, 38, and Markle, 41, were described as being “extremely upset and shaken” by Page Six early on Wednesday following their involvement in a “near-catastrophic” two-hour paparazzi chase in New York City Tuesday evening.

After an awards ceremony at 10 p.m., the two of them and the former actress’ mother, Doria Ragland, were driving in a car when they were pursued by photographers. In an effort to avoid the photographers, they got into a yellow cab.

Their spokesperson issued a statement claiming that the “relentless pursuit” caused “multiple near collisions” and lasted for more than two hours.

According to the NYPD, numerous photographers “made their transport challenging” and that an incident involving Harry and Meghan occurred.

The police stated that there were no reported injuries or arrests. Until now, Buckingham Palace has remained silent.

The entertainment photo agency Backgrid said in a statement that it was looking into the actions of a number of independent photographers, but that their initial accounts of the events were different from the Sussexes’.

According to reports, there were six automobiles involved in the chase, and the drivers engaged in reckless driving that included running red lights, driving on the sidewalk, making blocking maneuvers, and even reversing down a one-way street while still in motion.

However, a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department issued a statement disputing several of the Sussexes’ assertions.

A police spokesperson recounted the ordeal, saying, “There were many photographers that made their transport challenging.”

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination, and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”

Also speaking, Mayor Eric Adams said that two police officers “could have been injured.”
