“I was crossing 67th Street and the security guard hailed me. And the next thing you know Prince Harry and his wife were hopping into my cab. And as we went a block, we got blocked by a garbage truck, and all of a sudden, paparazzis came, and they started taking pictures. And then… they were just about to tell me their location, where they were going to go, but then they told me to circle back to the precinct. So we circled back to the precinct,” Singh said.

Singh told the AP that while the paparazzi were “following us the whole time,” however wouldn’t call it a chase as described in an official statement released by by Prince Harry and Meghan’s office.

Speaking to the Daily News, Singh said the royals, who he described as “quite nice,” didn’t speak much to him. “They asked me my name and I only gave them my nickname ‘Sonny,’ since my real name is hard.” They also paid his fare — $17 — and left a generous tip. “It was pretty good man,” he told the AP. “They gave me a $50.”

Singh, a cab driver for the past four years, told the Daily News that he received a call from the Taxi and Limousine commissioner in appreciation for his efforts. Singh added that he doesn’t intend to bask in the fame and returned to work just hours later. He admitted that he wasn’t “shocked” by his passengers. “I’ve had Keith Richards in my cab before. Driving around Manhattan, you pick up a lot of celebrities,” he added.
