The George Washington Bridge that connects Manhattan to New Jersey has disappeared under clouds of smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

A video of the bridge has gone viral on social media.

Airports in New York City have reported delays and cancelations in both domestic and international flights. The air quality in NYC was the worst in the world as of 3 PM ET, according to IQAir.com.

Newark Liberty International Airport tweeted that “current smoke condition may impact your travel, please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight.” A total of 1,147 flights were delayed and 73 canceled, according to FlightAware.com.

Meanwhile, NYC zoos announced that they are closed on Wednesday and animals were moved indoors ‘as a hazardous orange haze of wildfire smoke suffocated the city’.

The Bronx, Central Park, Queens, and Prospect Park zoos closed down at 3 PM for the safety of staffers and critters as unhealthy air pollution levels spiked, officials said.

“We have been monitoring the rising air quality index & will close the WCS parks: Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and NY Aquarium, at 3 pm today out of concern for our staff, visitors and animals. Thank you for understanding,” the Bronx Zoo announced on Twitter.

As plumes of wildfire smoke choked New York City, far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used the rare air quality crisis to push progressives’ costly Green New Deal.

“Between NYC in wildfire smoke and this in PR, it bears repeating how unprepared we are for the climate crisis. We must adapt our food systems, energy grids, infrastructure, healthcare, etc ASAP to prepare for what’s to come and catch up to what is already here,” AOC added, punctuating the tweet with the hashtag “#GreenNewDeal,” she said on Twitter.

WNBA team New York Liberty announced that its game against the Minnesota Lynx has been postponed “due to poor air quality in the New York City area.”
