According to a press release, the incidents started at a Truist bank at 4:30 a.m. when someone set off an explosive on the pavement outside the structure in the 2300 block of Washington Place NE. In the 700 block of H Street, NE, in front of the Nike shop, another explosive went off a few minutes later, according to the police.
Then, at roughly 4:45 in the morning, someone hurled “a Molotov cocktail style object” at the Safeway supermarket in the 300 block of 40th Street NE, added the release, which noted that all three businesses were shuttered and that no injuries were recorded.
According to police, a person could be seen driving away from the location of each occurrence.
The explosive devices broke windows, but no one was hurt because all three companies were closed at the time of the explosions. The culprit, according to the police, targeted businesses rather than people.
The police have not provided any additional details regarding a suspect lookout or a potential crime’s motivation.
