Asa Ellerup has filed for divorce in the aftermath of her husband’s arrest. Heuermann, a 59-year-old architect, was taken into custody by Suffolk County police on charges related to the murders of three women.
The arrest occurred near his office in Manhattan, with authorities later informing the family of the accusations. As police continued to investigate, they seized evidence from the family home in Massapequa Park, including passports, computers, phones, and iPads.

Rex Heuermann faces charges of first- and second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello, whose bodies were discovered wrapped in camouflaged burlap at Gilgo Beach in 2010.
Heuermann is also suspected in the death of a fourth victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes. A task force comprising multiple law enforcement agencies linked Heuermann to the crime scene through witness statements, phone records, and a DNA sample. He is due back in court on August 1, facing potential life imprisonment if convicted.
