The T.F. Green International Airport in Rhode Island was placed under lockdown on Friday due to an incident. According to a Rhode Island Airport Corporation representative, the airport was placed on lockdown as authorities looked into a potential security threat. It is requested that travellers postpone their arrival time.
Following an active shooter alarm, authorities determined there is “no credible security threat,” and the Rhode Island T.F. Green Airport has since reopened.
On Friday afternoon, the airport was placed into lockdown when a member of the public saw “a potential suspect with a rifle.”
The airport issued a statement saying, “Law enforcement has determined there is no credible security threat at R.I. International Airport.”
‘RIAC has lifted the precautionary airport lockdown. Travelers are asked to check with their airlines regarding potential delays.’
State and local police along with other agencies made a timely response, cordoning off a parking garage and closing roads leading to the airport.
According to Rhode Island State Police Col. Darnell Weaver, the Warwick SWAT Team worked to empty the airport’s parking garage while state police established a perimeter around the building.
According to preliminary information, Warwick Police received a report regarding a possible suspect carrying a rifle, Weaver said.
They responded to the scene, however the incident was contained to the parking garage and not the terminal itself.
Dan McKee, the governor of Rhode Island, stated that “IFly Rhode Island has received the all-clear from our team at RI State Police.”
The lockdown has been removed since the reports of a possible security danger were baseless.

The incident disrupted traffic on the Airport connector, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
‘All Travel Lanes blocked on Airport Connector EB at Exit 1A (Jefferson Boulevard) in Warwick – Incident at TF Green Airport,’ the statement read.
