Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has become the highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals. Shakib surpassed former Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga’s record of 107 wickets while bowling in Bangaldesh’s ICC T20 World Cup opener against Scotland in Al Amerat, Oman, on Sunday. Shakib dismissed Richie Berrington and Michael Leask in quick succession as Bangaldesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. He removed Berrington and Leask in a span of three deliveries in the 11th over of the game.

Malinga reached the figure of 107 wickets in 84 T20Is while Shakib took his 108th wicket in his 89th T20 international for Bangladesh.
Shakib is also the only cricketer to have claimed more than a 100 wickets and scored more than a thousand runs in T20 internationals.
Shakib’s 1763 runs at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 121.41 include nine fifties with highest score of 84.

His 108 wickets have come at an average of 20.38 and an economy rate of 6.70 with a career best 5/20.
Bangladesh, Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland are in Group B of the mega tournament being held in Oman and the UAE till November 16. Bangladesh will face Oman next on October 19 and Papua New Guinea on October 21 in the qualifying fixtures. Oman won their match against Papua New Guinea by ten wickets, while Bangladesh were comfortably placed against Scotland who finished with 140/9 in 20 overs.
