Shivkumar Subramaniam, who is famed for his role in movies like ‘2 States’, died on Sunday night. While the cause of death remains unclear, the Bollywood fraternity paid tributes to the veteran actor.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta shared the news in a social media post on early Monday along with a heartfelt message. “With profound and heartfelt grief, we wish to inform you of the passing of one of the most dignified and noble souls to inhabit human form – our dearest Shiv Subrahmanyam. Incredibly talented, he was much loved and revered personally as well as professionally.”

Hansal Mehta, while sharing details about the funeral, also passed his condolences to actor Shivkumar Subramaniam’s family. He is survived by his wife Divya and two children.
Shivkumar Subramaniam’s most recent on-screen appearance was on ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ alongside ‘Dangal‘ actor Sanya Malhotra. He is also celebrated for his role in the 2014 romantic-comedy film ‘2 states’, in which the actor played Alia Bhatt‘s father.

Subramaniam, who has been active in Bollywood since 1989, has been associated with multiple big projects. In addition to ‘2 states’, these include flicks like ‘Rocky Handsome’, ‘That Girl in Yellow Boots’ and ‘Stanley ka Dabba’.
He has also managed to secure multiple accolades through his decades-long acting career, including two Filmfare awards — one for Best Screenplay and another one for Best Story.

Other Bollywood personalities also poured in tributes for the veteran actor. Indian director and producer Ashoke Pandit wrote in a social media post, “Extremely shocked and pained to know about the tragic demise of our dear friend, a great actor and a brilliant human being Shiv Subramaniam.”
He added, “My heartfelt condolences to his wife Divya. May God give you enough energy to face this tragedy.”
