Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday became the fastest Indian bowler to pick 400 wickets in the Test cricket format. He achieved the feat on day 2 of India’s third Test against England, which is being played at Motera stadium (renamed as Narendra Modi stadium) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Ashwin picked the wicket of England’s Jofra Archer, to reach the milestone.
Not only has Ashwin become the fastest Indian bowler to pick 400 wickets in the Test format, but he is also the second-fastest in the world, after Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan, to do so.
“What a champion bowler,” tweeted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Although he is the fastest Indian bowler to take 400 Test wickets, he is the fourth from India to do so. The other three are Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.
Ashwin is also the fastest Indian bowler to pick 300 wickets.
In the first innings of the third Test against England, he took three wickets.

The teams are levelled 1-1 in the four match series, which is particularly crucial to bag a spot at the World Test Championships final. While England needs to win both, India needs to win one and draw the other to make it to the finals. New Zealand has already qualified for it.
