A city in North Carolina declared a state of emergency on Monday following unrest in public caused due to the killing of Andrew Brown Jr, an African-American, by police, according to CNN. The public took to the streets demanding for the video footage of the incident to be released. Brown was fatally shot by the deputies of Pasquotank County sheriff in Elizabeth City on Wednesday when they tried to serve with an arrest warrant, said the Sheriff’s office.

During the deadly incident, first responders were heard saying that a man had gunshot wounds on the back, according to CNN. Following this incident, the city has seen several peaceful protests that caused the officials to release the video showing the incident to the public. The video was recorded from the police body camera.

Brown’s family attorney Harry Daniels said that the family expected to see the video on Monday, but he was told earlier in the day that officials were still redacting parts of the video and that it was not ready yet, reported CNN.

“Show the tape”, said Daniels in a press conference on Monday. “If you ain’t got nothing to hide, show the tape”.

It is proclaimed that the city officials would file a formal request with the county sheriff’s office for the video to be released to the public. “It seems likely that the video and audio footage will be released in the very near future. In order to ensure the safety of our citizens and their property, City officials realize there may be a potential period of unrest within the City following the public release of the footage”, says the proclamation.

Protesters took to the streets for the four days straight calling for a public release of the video.
