India recorded 1,86,364 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. With this, the nation’s tally of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,75,55,457. There are currently 23,43,152 active cases in the country.

On Thursday, India recorded 3,660 COVID-19 deaths, which took the death toll to 318,895.

A total of  259,459 people recovered on Thursday, taking the tally of recovered COVID-19 cases in the country to 24,893,410.

33,90,39,861  samples for COVID-19 were tested across India in the past 24 hours, the Indian Council of Medical Research said on Thursday. As of May 26, as many as 33,69,69,353 samples for COVID-19 have been tested across India.

The nation kicked off its mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 on January 16 and as of May 27, over 202 million people have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. As of Thursday, 1,885,805 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

India administered its first foreign-made vaccine dose of Russia’s Sputnik V on May 14. The country is now administering three COVID-19 vaccines, including Covaxin and Covishield.

Recently, complaints from the state of Punjab arose regarding supply of vaccines from US biotechnology company Moderna, which, as per the complaint, refused to engage in a trade with the Punjab government, saying that the company would only deal directly with the Government of India.
